Caregiving

In 2017, Jerri's life took a turn she never could have fully anticipated.  She stepped into the role of caregiver for her father, Mr. Jerry, beginning a journey that would stretch her understanding of love, patience, responsibility, forgiveness, and resilience in ways she could never have imagined.  What started as caring for someone she loves gradually became a deeply personal education in the realities families face when navigating aging, disability, and the ever-changing demands of caregiving.

While still managing motherhood, as a mother of six, she discovered another sector of the care community that "fit" her new season of life, "Sandwiched Caregiving" - being a caregiver managing both her aging parent, and her children.

Over the years, Jerri has experienced the joys, challenges, questions, and quiet sacrifices that so many family caregivers carry behind the scenes. She has learned that caregiving is more than a responsibility; it is a journey that can reshape your identity, test your capacity, and remind you of the importance of support, resources, and being seen.

Today, Jerri's experience as a daughter and family caregiver fuels her passion for advocacy. She believes caregivers deserve to be heard, supported, informed, and reminded that they matter, too.  Her journey with Mr. Jerry has become part of a larger purpose: helping families navigate caregiving with greater connection, compassion, and confidence.

Dr. Jerri Danyelle McElroy’s journey as a daughter and family caregiver has grown into a deeper commitment to supporting, uplifting, and advocating for others who walk a similar path. Through caregiver connection, leadership, fellowship, and community outreach, she works to create spaces where caregivers feel seen, valued, and reminded that they do not have to navigate their journey alone.

Whether facilitating meaningful conversations, learning alongside fellow advocates, or celebrating those who give so much of themselves to care for others, Dr. Jerri’s mission remains the same: to ensure caregivers know they matter, their voices deserve to be heard, and their well-being matters, too.

Daughterhood Circle Leader

Through her service as a Circle Leader with Daughterhood, Dr. Jerri helps create welcoming spaces where family caregivers can share their stories, express their challenges, celebrate their victories, and connect with others who understand the realities of caregiving. These circles provide opportunities for honest conversation, encouragement, and community—a reminder that while every caregiving journey is unique, no one should have to walk it alone.

FIRST Care4ME

Celebrating the Hearts Behind the Care

FIRST Care4ME is Dr. Jerri’s outreach project dedicated to recognizing and celebrating family caregivers—the often-unseen individuals who give so much of their time, energy, compassion, and love to others. Inspired by her own caregiving journey, this initiative seeks to shine a light on caregivers, honor their contributions, and remind them that they deserve care, encouragement, and recognition, too.

Because caregivers are often so focused on caring for everyone else, their own needs can fade into the background. FIRST Care4ME is rooted in a simple but powerful message: the caregiver matters, too. Through awareness, recognition, and community-centered outreach, Dr. Jerri hopes to help caregivers feel appreciated, affirmed, and reminded that their stories matter.

The Heart Behind the Work

For Dr. Jerri, advocacy is more than speaking up. It is about listening, connecting, creating opportunities, and helping people feel less alone in the experiences they carry. Her hope is that every caregiver she encounters feels a little more supported, a little more encouraged, and a little more reminded of their own worth.

Because caring for others should never mean being forgotten yourself.
